Implementation Plan for WTEA International Theatre Festival 2025

VI. Activities:

1. Showcases

During the event, plays will be staged in Beijing and Guilin. We now invite every member school to stage a play.

2. Workshops

Workshops on Acting will be conducted at the CAD in Beijing. Please contact the Secretariat if you are interested in conducting one.

VII. Requirements for the Plays

1. Theme (optional): 'Dream' or 'Love'

2. Running Time: up to 60 minutes

3. Choices of Theatre:

Two choices of stage will be provided by the Central Academy of Drama:

1) 500-seat Proscenium Stage Theatre, and 2) 200-seat Thrust Stage Theatre.

*Schools that choose Thrust Stage will stage their plays TWICE, one time more than those who choose Proscenium Stage.

4. Due to limited set-up time, each performing group is requested to bring or make simple stage props for quicker assembly and disassembly, and to design the lighting according to the lighting layout provided by the CAD.

VIII. Budgetary Details

1. For member schools with a play, the board and lodging and local transportation of up to 8 students/faculty members will be covered by the organizers. Every extra participant shall pay 500 yuan per day for the board and lodging during their stay in China, and bear the inter-city transportation costs between Beijing and Guilin.

2. For institutions without a play, the board and lodging and local transportation of up to 3 representatives will be covered by the organizers.

3. All production costs for sets, props, and costumes, as well as their international transportation are to be covered by the participating institutions. The organisers will pay for their inter-city transportation within China.

4. International travels are at the participants’ own expense.

IX. Awards

1. There will be three kinds of awards, respectively for Best Play, Best Performance, and Outstanding Performance.

2. Awards for Best Play will be given to the top 1/4 of all entries.

3. For each entry, an Award for Best Performance will be given to the performer with the highest score (or votes), and an Award for Outstanding to the one with the second highest score (or votes).

4. All institutions with a play are eligible to name a faculty member (professor) to constitute the jury. The judges shall not score or vote for the play from their institutions.
